first step 6x^2-13x-8=0 next step factor it 6x^2-16x+3x-8=0 then take a common value 2x(3x-8)+1(3x-8)=0 ,now it becomes (2x+1)(3x-8)=0 , 2x+1=0 , 3x-8=0 , so x=-1/2 or x=8/3
